Foremothers is a henge of personal memory caskets, each dedicated to a female ancestor. This incredible art installation forms part of our 250th anniversary celebrations,

Opening times

Opening regularly from July 26th to August 31st, 2025

  • Every Thursday and Friday; 6pm - 8pm

  • Every Saturday and Sunday; 10am - 3pm

About the Installation

  • Foremothers is about honouring our personal histories, facilitating connection, expression, and making.

  • This project invites women to create a personal shire of casket in honour of a female ancestry; known, unknown, or imagined. Each handmade box becomes part of a striking circular installation beneath the altar window, forming a kind of contemporary henge of memory, identity, and connection.

  • Group members work alongside artists to create shrines to reflect a range of voices and experiences. Some are humorous, others political, spiritual, or personal. They hold objects, mementos, crafter fragments, and stories.

About the artist

Created by MAC (Mill Arts Collective) artist Tyra Till, whose practice explores boundaries and relationships. This project invites reflection, storytelling, and shared creativity.
